New Worship Space!

As of September 5th, 2021, Reconciliation Anglican Church is meeting in a new location for our principle worship service.

We will be meeting at our normal time (10 AM, Sunday morning) in the Fellowship and Education wing of First Baptist Church (110 Flora). We anticipate that this will be the regular time and location of our principal service of worship indefinitely, but since arrangement is experimental for both us and for the hosting congregation, there may be further adjustments in the future.

  • New Worship Location: 110 Flora St

  • Time: Sunday Morning, 10 AM

We will be using the east side of the building (closer to the alley than to Commercial St). Enter through the courtyard doors. Parking is ample in this area of downtown on Sunday morning, although we encourage those who are able-bodied and unencumbered to park at a distance to leave the nearer parking spots for the elderly, disabled, and families with small children who are worshipping with us (or with First Baptist, who will be worshipping simultaneously next door).

Concurrent with our shift in spaces, we will also be shifting liturgies, jumping in with weekly Holy Communion. While we share deep and lofty visions of the beauty of the Gospel and of the Sacrament that we desire to see embodied in our worship, our practice of celebrating around our Lord’s Table will begin simply and reverently, and we will look forward to increasing the depth of voice and color we will be able to give the practice over time.

Look for the signs!

Mindful of the ongoing challenges and concerns surrounding the COVID19 pandemic, as well as the need for simplicity in view of the transition, here are some particularities of that arrangement in our early stages:

  • Per current mandates, masks will be required for all participants. If you do not have a mask, we will have one available for you.

  • We will continue to keep our masking and mitigation policies updated in accordance with (1) the needs of the most vulnerable among us, (2) the policies of our hosting congregation, and (3) the guidance of health officials.

  • Courtyard doors will be opened to increase airflow. If anyone prefers to sit outside, outdoor seating can be accommodated.

  • We will begin by serving communion in one kind (bread only), and with a said service (no / minimal music). This will change gradually as we settle into the space and public health measures are lifted.

  • For the time being, our worship time will continue to be “briefer” and 100% intergenerational. Children will have the opportunity to “wiggle” in the courtyard area, which is visible from the worship space.

  • There is a cryroom nearby, and ample children’s space on the second floor, above the worship space.

  • Children are welcome to explore the play areas, provided they are supervised by their parent/guardian, and ensure that the areas are put back in order the way they were found.

Additionally, we are looking forward, in the next few months, to establishing joint children’s programming with the host congregationas well as exploring other ways that we can grow in cooperation and mutual ministry together with FBC and the other congregations and organizations that share the space.

While there will inevitably be some awkwardness and uncertainty as we establish the contours and the boundaries of this relationship, we have before us a tremendous opportunity to lean into the eponymous work of reconciliation that is our namesake, learning through the practice to “walk in love as Christ loved us.”

We are prayerful and hopeful that our Lord will through this labor of devotion and prayer work marvelous things: through his Gospel, proclaimed in Word and Sacrament, that he would establish this little mission at the heart of our city, and open great rest and abundance in our lives and the lives of those around us as we steward that which we have been entrusted to the glory of his name, the upbuilding of his Church, and the good of our community.

Please do not hesitate to contact Fr. Nathaniel with any questions or concerns. Grateful for all that is behind and all that is ahead, we look forward to continuing worshipping with you in this next season!

It’s a work in progress, but we’re excited about the new space, and the kinds of mission and ministry partnerships it will help us catalyze!
